Shami dismissed opener Martin Guptill in his first over to overtake the record which previously belonged to Irfan Pathan. He went past Pathan by getting his 100th victim in 56 ODIs, three games lesser than Pathan’s 59.
Zaheer Khan (65 ODIs), Ajit Agarkar (67) and Javagal Srinath (68 ODIs) complete the list of top five fastest bowlers from India. Shami has been in great form for India ever since his comeback to the One-day side in Australia earlier this month. He was the fourth most successful bowler in Australia ODI series, bagging 5 wickets in 3 matches.
Following his latest feat, he thanked his fans for their support when the bowler was going through a rough phase, both professionally and personally. “Thank You One & All for the Support, Wishes, Prayers & Enduring Trust on me through thick & thin times as a Player & a Person. I dedicate this feat to my angel Daughter,” Shami wrote on his Twitter handle.

Shami can play an integral role for India in the World Cup
With the sort of performances Shami has been putting since the Australia series, he will play a crucial role in the Indian squad for the ICC World Cup where he is likely to assist Bhuvi and Bumrah in the pace department. Last year, the quick’s personal life came under the scanner after his ex-wife Hasin Jahan accused him of domestic violence and also match-fixing.
His performances also went down during that phase but once Shami was cleared of the charges, he concentrated harder on the game and bounced back with good performances. It will be interesting to see if Shami plays IPL 2019 for Delhi Capitals or preserves himself for the World Cup.
