After an insignificant performance throughout 2018, former Indian captain MS Dhoni returned to his usual form in the recently-concluded ODI series in Australia by scoring three consecutive fifties. True to the tag he earned as the world’s best finisher, Dhoni ensured the team’s victory in both the matches India won by staying till the very end.

After the run-drought of the previous year where he failed to score a single fifty, this came as a welcome change. Dhoni’s back-to-back knocks of 51, 55* and 87* in the three ODIs helped him amass a total of 193 runs at an average of 193.00. Despite scoring a fifty from him in the first match at Sydney, it came at an expense of 96 balls and also in a losing cause for the team.

However, he made that up in the next two matches by staying unbeaten on the crease and taking the score to the target on both occasions, as India claimed their first ever bilateral ODI series win in Australia. Not to mention, he proved to the world once again that he is still one of the fastest between the wickets.

This was not only a fitting reply to the critics who were insisting on his retirement or removal from the team, but it also came as a huge morale boost for the team prior to the 2019 World Cup. Ahead of the 1st ODI against New Zealand in Napier, MSD was seen sweating it out in the nets and looking sharp as ever while at it.

New Zealand venues are one of Dhoni’s favourites to score of and there is no doubt, there will be a lot of limelight on the 37-year-old’s scoreboard over here. His record at the Kiwi’s grounds is a fascinating 541 runs in ten innings, adding up to an excellent average of 90.16. The score includes six half-centuries as well.
