Virat Kohli in a team huddle had once said to MS Dhoni, “You will always be our captain.” Rather the veteran still manoeuvres the field during the death overs and it is indeed a delight for his fans to watch him lead the team. Dhoni took over the reins of the team during the second T20I against New Zealand on Friday as well at the Eden Park in Auckland.

He was still changing the field when Rohit Sharma had to go into the change room in the 16th over. The skipper took the catch of Colin de Grandhomme off the fourth ball of the over and had to go off the field. He probably hurt his finger a bit while taking a smart catch and was being looked at by the team physio Patrick Farhart. At the same time, MS Dhoni took over the captaincy duties and started managing the field in the death overs.

He was seen instructing the players and changing the field according to the situation even as Rohit watched the action from the sidelines for some time. Rohit returned for the last couple of overs and performed his duties but it was a delight to watch Dhoni donning the captaincy hat again.

India romp home to level the series

As far as the match is concerned, India played their best cricket after getting hammered in the series opener in Wellington. After opting to bat first, New Zealand lost quick wickets and were reeling at 50/4 at one stage. But Colin de Grandhomme smashed a half-century to propel the team to a competitive total of 158 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

The chase, however, was pretty straightforward for the visitors. Rohit Sharma led the way for them with a 29-ball 50 and then Rishabh Pant took over to take the team home along with MS Dhoni.
