Team India won’t go back home after the gruelling Australia tour which concludes on January 18. They will fly to New Zealand soon after for 5 One-Day Internationals and three T20Is. Interestingly, the two teams won’t be locking horns in the longest format of the game this time around which is a wise move as the World Cup is only a few months away.
At the moment, the Virat Kohli-led Indian side is busy playing the four-match Test series Down Under which will end on January 7. They will then face the home side in three ODIs starting from January 12. Meanwhile, New Zealand are hosting Sri Lanka currently in the two-match Test series. The two teams will then go on to play three 50-over games and a solitary T20I.
Kohli as captain in NZ for the first time
Virat Kohli will be travelling to the Kiwi nation for the first time since becoming the captain of India. Last time the Men in Blue played there, MS Dhoni was at the helm. Kohli has been scaling new heights ever since taking the reins of the team in his hands and will be keen on making a most of it in the series which will most probably decide India’s probable 15 for the World Cup.
As far as the tour is concerned, the first ODI will be played five days after India’s Australia tour ends in Napier. The next two matches will then be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Hamilton and Wellington will play hosts for the last two One-Day Internationals. All the matches will start at 7.30 AM IST and it will be a day-night affair in New Zealand.
The T20Is will be played in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton as India’s long tour to Trans-Tasman nations conclude on February 10. While the first and third game of the series will start at 12.30 PM IST, the Auckland T20I will start an hour earlier.
