New Zealand will be hosting the Netherlands in the second One Day International at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on April 2. Both teams will be heading into this clash on the back of contrasting results. The hosts registered a convincing seven-wicket win in their last meeting in the first ODI riding on a spectacular unbeaten century from Will Young and a supporting 57 from Henry Nicholls.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, were just not good enough with the bat in the series opener and apart from middle-order batter Michael Rippon who scored 67 runs from 97 deliveries and skipper Pieter Seelaar’s 43 runs off 75 balls, none of the other batters could even pose any challenge as the Dutch failed to post a fighting total on an easy batting surface at the Bay Oval.

Pitch Report

The surface at the Seddon Park is a really good one for batting and the teams can easily post totals in excess of 300. However, rain is predicted during the clash which could also lead to interruptions in between. The final scenario in all this could be a rain-curtailed match. Therefore, the captain winning the toss will be bowling first.

Probable Playing XIs for New Zealand vs Netherlands

New Zealand

Martin Guptill, Tom Latham (c), Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Michael Bracwell (wk), Will Young, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Doug Bracewell, Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi

Netherlands

Vikramjit Singh (wk), Max O’Dowd, Boris Gorlee, Bas de Leede, Pieter Seelaar (c), Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, Ryan Klein, Philippe Boissevain, Fred Klaassen, Brandon Glover

Probable best batter of the Match: Will Young

Will Young successfully anchored New Zealand’s run chase in the first game with a magnificent century. After the opener Martin Guptill was dismissed cheaply, Young along with Henry Nicholls added 162 runs for the second-wicket stand that took the game away from the Netherlands as their bowlers failed to create any more breakthroughs. The promising batter could yet again be expected to fire on all cylinders and the Dutch bowlers must get rid of him early on.

Probable best bowler of the Match: Blair Tickner

Blair Tickner was really impressive with the ball in hand in the first game and was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers with four scalps to his name. The medium-pacer worked in tandem with the tall speedster Kyle Jamieson who also chipped in with three wickets. Tickner finished with figures of 4/50 from his 10 overs. With the key bowlers unavailable due to IPL 2022, the 28-year-old would be looking to add more wickets to his tally in this series.

Today’s Match Prediction: New Zealand are expected to win.
