New Zealand vs Pakistan: Fuming Sarfraz Ahmed gives an animated verbal volley to Martin Guptill

Team Pakistan ended their recent tour of New Zealand on a high. They won the 3-match T20I series with a 2-1 margin to cap off the tour. Certainly, the underfire Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed was a happy man after the win. The Men in Green had a very trouble time down under. Hence, the frustration of their skipper and even the team management seemed quite justified.

During the final T20I of the series and the tour, the anger of Sarfraz Ahmed apparently came out against the Kiwi batsman Martin Guptill. Before getting in to the details of the incident, here is brief look at how things panned out for team Pakistan down under. Their misfortunes had commenced last year itself when they had toured New Zealand for a two-match Test series.

They were whitewashed by the hosts and were blown away by the green tracks on display. Subsequently, they toured Australia for a Test and an ODI series. Again, the Men in Green faced severe embarrassment as they failed to register even a single win on the tour. This season, they arrived in New Zealand for the limited overs assignment. They certainly expected a better show from the team considering the fact that they had won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

However, the fortunes in the ODI format did not change one bit. Team New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan 5-0 in the series. Amidst this backdrop, the T20I series commenced, and the Pakistani side showed a dismal performance in the first game. They lost the match and had to win the next two games to win the series. The visitors showed an overnight transition to do so.

After a convincing win in the second T20I, their batsmen posted 181 on the board in the decider game. In the run chase, New Zealand were 47 at the end of the powerplay. It was just then that Sarfraz Ahmed was scene getting animated and shouting ‘f*#* off’ at Martin Guptill. Guptill went on to score a fifty in the match but Pakistan eked out a narrow win to seal the series. Also, with the series win, they moved back to the top of the ICC T20I team rankings.
