The second Test match between New Zealand and West Indies commenced on Friday at the Basin Reserve in Wellington with the visitors winning the toss and opting to bowl first. It was a typical day of Test cricket as bowlers kept beating the bat consistently. However, it was another poor day on the field for West Indies with them dropping easy catches and eventually, it ended up costing them.

Henry Nicholls was lucky on the day as he was dropped three times and the southpaw made the most of it scoring an unbeaten century. Shannon Gabriel was the best bowler of the day picking three wickets but the pacer should’ve got more and was unlucky. He should’ve sent back Nicholls in the 41st over of the innings when he was on just 47 runs.

Gabriel ran in and eked out an edge off Nicholls’ bat. The ball flew to the second slip where Darren Bravo was standing who literally spilled an easy catch. No wonder, the bowler was agitated with the repetitive mistakes from the fielders and ended up abusing his teammate. “F**k you,” Shannon Gabriel shouted at Bravo and it was clearly heard on stump mic.

Henry Nicholls’ 117 helps NZ to get to 294

It was a tough day with the bat for New Zealand as West Indies bowled well. But with catches dropped, the hosts ended up having an upper hand on a green pitch. Henry Nicholls made the visitors pay for three reprieves and batted superbly to remain unbeaten on 117 off 207 deliveries with 15 fours and a six. Shannon Gabriel sent down 18 overs in the day going for 57 runs for his three wickets.

The debuatant Chemar Holder bowled well picking two wickets while Alzarri Joseph scalped one. For New Zealand, the likes of BJ Watling, Daryl Mitchell and Will Young all got starts. But none of them could make the most of it. But they stitched crucial partnerships with Nicholls who is still looking good in the middle.
