At a time when the world is busy looking for ways to end the wage disparity between males and females, former New Zealand cricketer Peter McGlashan has revealed some startling details. The ex-cricketer had plied his trade as commentator during the T20 double header in Auckland on Sunday. He later took to Twitter to point out the wage difference in domestic cricket.

The Super Smash doubleheader at the Eden Park Outer Oval featured the Auckland Aces hosting the Otago Volts followed by the women’s final between the Wellington Blaze and the Canterbury Magicians. McGlashan commentated in both the games before sensationally revealing that he was paid more than any of the women players.

In his tweet, he revealed that former New Zealand pace bowler Mitchell McClenaghan earned $575 while White Ferns and Wellington star Sophie Devine received just $55.

After the game, he pointed out the big wage difference between the male and female teams, saying, “The men’s winning team in the same competition in a couple of weeks’ time will earn $80,000… and yet Liz’s team walk home tonight with a medal and a trophy.”

“Yes they got to play on TV and their families get to watch them on TV but you can only promote this equality Super Smash doubleheader, giving the women and the men equal opportunity if you actually follow it through,” he added.

Auckland Aces and Wellington Blaze win

The Auckland Aces have taken a four-point lead over Otago Volts in the Twenty20 Super Smash with a narrow win on Sunday. Aces captain Craig Cachopa starred with the bat, scoring 73 off 38 balls to help them post 183-4. In reply, the Volts put up a good fight but fell short by just four runs. With the win, the Aces have cemented themselves in third, the final playoff spot, with 16 points.

In the second game, Wellington Blaze held their nerves to beat Canterbury Magicians by 4 wickets. Batting first, the Magicians scored 130 for 3 in the 20 overs with Erin Bermingham’s 61 being the top-score. In reply, the Blaze chased down the total on the very last ball of the game.
