New Zealand Women vs India Women: Frances Mackay makes White Ferns’ comeback after five years
She has an experience of 27 T20Is in which she has notched 273 runs and picked up 22 wickets.
India Women’s tour of New Zealand is set to get underway on Thursday, January 24 with the three-match ODI series. Thereafter, the two teams are scheduled to lock horns in a three-match T20I series. The first match will be played on Wednesday, February 6 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. The second the final T20 will take place in Auckland and Hamilton on February 8 and 10 respectively.
In the meantime, the White Ferns’ have announced a 13-woman squad for the series. Frances Mackay, the 28-year-old all-rounder made his comeback to the national squad after five years. The Canterbury-born last donned the national colours in the 2014 Women’s World T20 against Sri Lanka in Bangladesh. She has an experience of 27 T20Is in which she has notched 273 runs and picked up 22 wickets.
White Ferns pick two uncapped players
The team has also picked two uncapped stars in Caitlin Gurney and Rosemary Mair. Mackay and Gurney did exceptionally in the 2018-19 Super Smash owing to which they have got the opportunity. Katey Martin would be missing the ODI series because of personal reasons, but he made the cut for the T20 format.
“We’ve had to draw a line in the sand after our performance at the T20 World Cup. We need to reward and give opportunities to players in form, while building depth and competition for places within the environment,” Haidie Tiffen, New Zealand’s head coach, was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.
“Frankie, Katie and Rosemary can all be proud of how they have performed in their respective Super Smash campaigns. We are rewarding players who are in form and we feel these three deserve a chance at the highest level.”
