The Australian cricket team baffled everyone with an unbelievable chase against New Zealand today. Having already booked a place for themselves in the finals of the Trans Tasman tri-series this game didn’t have a lot at stake for them. Furthermore, records tumbled as the batsmen dominated the game. The New Zealand innings was powered by their opener Martin Guptill who composed a blistering century. He scored 105 off just 54 balls and was supported by his partner Colin Munro who hit 76 from 33 deliveries.

Kiwis scored 243 runs in the first innings for the loss of six wickets. Moreover, they were the favourites to win the game at the end of first innings. However, the openers’ efforts went in vain and Australia took everyone by surprise when they chased the target down without much ado. Heroics from David Warner and D’Arcy Short and the finishing touch by Aaron Finch enabled them to chase the target down in just the 19th over. This is also the highest ever target chased down in a T20 match.

Mark Chapman out hit wicket

Getting out hit wicket is one of the most bizarre dismissals for any batsman. It was exactly the case with New Zealand’s Mark Chapman and he became the latest victim of hit wicket. However, his dismissal more disappointing than what you would expect. He got out in the unluckiest way in today’s game.

Chapman who was playing in just his second match for the Blackcaps certainly had no luck. In the 18th over of New Zealand’s innings, Billy Stanlake bowled a lethal bouncer. The batsman looked in no position to play the attempted pull shot and completely lost his balance. His eyes were shut as the ball chased into his helmet. Although things seem to be fine at this point, there is more to the incident.

The helmet was knocked out of his head and unfortunately for him, it went on to drop on the stumps and he was out hit wicket. Chapman looked helpless and dejected out there in the middle and walked back to the pavilion in utter disappointment. England‘s Kevin Pietersen was also dismissed in a similar manner early in his career.
