New Zealand's series defeat give Pakistan the No.1 spot in T20I rankings
The Indian team won the three-match series 2-1.
Pakistan are now on 124 points while New Zealand have slipped from their pre-series 125 points to 120 points. Pakistan have regained the top position in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings after having briefly attained the rank during the series between India and New Zealand.
New Zealand had slipped behind Pakistan after India won the opening match of the three-match series against New Zealand and Pakistan once again find themselves at the top after India completed a 2-1 series win in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
Pakistan are now on 124 points while New Zealand have slipped from their pre-series 125 points to 120 points. India retain the fifth position with an aggregate of 119 on the points table.
The last T20I at Trivandrum was a rain-affected one and cut down to 8-over a side affair. Kane Williamson won the toss and on a sticky surface asked India to bat first and set them a target. Their bowlers used the slower deliveries to great effect and didn’t let the Indians get away. They managed 67/5 in their quota and it looked like a par total.
But the way the Indian seamers started and the response their fielders put upon the ground was electric. Brilliant catches, run outs and they put brakes on the scoring rate. In a shorter format, it is always difficult to catch-up on the scoring rate when there is a bit too much to be accomplished in the last part of the chase. The Indians stuck on to their own strengths and eventually won the game by 6 runs with that also the series.
