Indian skipper Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of the modern-day era. Even in his captaincy, India has had huge success both on home soil and on away tours. However, if there’s one thing that has not been in his favour and which people also keep pointing is the absence of an ICC Trophy in his cabinet.
In the same light of events, former Pakistan cricketer and analyst Salman Butt stated that there is some dirty politics going around Kohli. It was in reports that management isn’t happy with some of the decisions taken by him in the recent England series. Butt added that Kohli has been instrumental in India’s success and with the T20 World Cup around the corner, the debate around his captaincy won’t be healthy.
Butt added that he had made a great mark in the recent England series but there were a few reports recently that read that Kohli would be asked to make way for Rohit Sharma if India doesn’t have a fine run in World T20. Though Rohit is a great player and captain, Butt feels that the timing of this discussion is just not good. India is one of the top teams across formats and this decision around Kohli and his captaincy shouldn’t come now.
Virat Kohli was criticized for his team selections but he constantly backed his team, reckons Butt
“Do you see the timing of this news? I don’t have a problem with what the board thinks, it’s about their own evaluation of who can take their cricket forward. but is this the time to discuss these things? Now there’s talk of Virat Kohli’s captaincy being on the danger line,” said Butt on his YouTube Channel.
“He’s (Virat) recently played a series in England, led his team really well, he was being criticized for his team selections but he’s constantly backing his team and in turn, the team is responding to him and playing good cricket. the team is at the top in every format and the World Cup is right up front, so such news surfacing in the media is nothing but a dirty game,” added Butt.
