'Nice to see him make a few errors' - Trent Boult opines on Virat Kohli’s poor run of form

The Indian team had started their tour of New Zealand with big hopes and they got off on a good note, winning the T20I series 5-0. However, then things got bad for Virat Kohli and his men, as they first lost the three-match ODI series 0-3 and lost the first Test match of the series at Wellington by a huge margin of 10 wickets.

It was the first defeat for the Indian team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. And now in the ongoing second Test, the team finds itself in trouble again despite taking a 7-run lead in Christchurch. One of the main reasons has been the utter failure of their star batsman, Virat Kohli, to make big runs. He has failed to make a big score in four innings of the Tests, making a combined 38 runs so far, at an average of 9.50.

On the whole tour, Kohli has crossed fifty just once in 10 innings. Though the batsman has mentioned that he has been batting well and is not concerned with what people are saying outside. But one person was happy seeing the modern great struggling in tough conditions and that is New Zealand pacer, Trent Boult.

“He (Kohli) is one of the best players in the world, no doubt about that. Obviously, he is a big player for them and we just tried to put enough pressure on him, keep him quiet and soak up those boundary balls, and it was nice to see him make a few errors. We were lucky to get two that lined up and hit him on the pads nicely and it was a good feeling to see the back of him,” Boult was quoted as saying by India Today.

India had been bowled out for just 242 runs, but Mohammed Shami’s four and Bumrah’s three wickets handed them a brilliant lead of seven runs. But the batsmen undid the good work of their bowlers in the second innings, ending day two on 90/6 with a lead of just 97 runs. Boult was the pick of Kiwi bowlers picking three wickets for 16 runs including scalps of Pujara, Agarwal and Umesh Yadav.

“Probably, they are used to playing on low and slow pitches in India and it took time for them to get adjusted. Just like if I bowl in India, it will be foreign conditions for me,” Boult added. He also said that Kiwi bowlers were loving hunting in packs, moving the ball around and reaping the rewards of some amazing bowling.
