The former KKR captain expressed his wish of watching Nicholas Pooran as the young star player of IPL 2020. Gambhir expressed his opinions on the left-hander, who was just amazing in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League. The former Indian batsman opined that Trinidadian is the all-round player just like South African stunner AB de Villiers.
“For me, Nicholas Pooran is the young player I would like to watch in this IPL. We talk about AB de Villiers as a 360-degree player, but Nicholas Pooran has all types of shots. He can play the reverse sweep, normal sweep, and is capable of playing the big shots,” stated Gambhir in a discussion on Star Sports.
Nicholas Pooran deserves a bigger role for KXIP: Scott Styris
The 38-year-old stated that it would be a great thing to watch as to how Anil Kumble, Director of Operations Kings XI Punjab, would be able to make the best use of this talent. An able coach like Kumble can do a lot of wonders for the team.
“So such a player, when he plays under a coach like Anil Kumble, I have full confidence that Anil Kumble will be able to extract the best out of him. A great coach, who had won Mumbai Indians the title, I would want to see what he can do with the Kings XI,” he added.
Scott Styris is of the opinion that a great player like Pooran should be entrusted with bigger responsibilities if Punjab is looking for a good result this season.
“Players like Nicholas Pooran, who we have seen in the IPL, need to have bigger roles for their side. I think for Kings XI Punjab to have a big tournament, he needs to be given real responsibility,” said the former Kiwi international.
