The entire country is going gaga over Dinesh Karthik right now and one can only say he deserves every bit of the credit he’s getting. Over the years, we’ve seen the legendary MS Dhoni finish off games in the most dramatic style possible. The whole country has always been in awe of his calmness under such situations and what Karthik pulled off yesterday was right up there amongst the best.
India needed 35 runs to win in 3 overs when Mustafizur Rahman changed the game on its head. He gave away just one run and picked up the wicket of Manish Pandey off the last ball. With the equation boiling down to 34 needed in 2 overs, Karthik walked in to play one of the innings of his life.
He smashed two sixes and a four in his first three balls and that incredible shot over covers off the final ball will remain etched in people’s memory for a long time. His 8-ball 29 stunned the Bangladeshis and he helped India win the game in the most breathtaking ways possible. When you finish the game in such fashion, comparisons with MS Dhoni are just inevitable.
It all comes from experience: Karthik
Dinesh Karthik has always been one kind of a person who remained calm no matter what the situation was. He managed to churn some amazing cricketing shots and dispelled the growing danger with a touch of furnace and class. The 32-year-old said that such calmness can only be acquired only through experience and no one can buy it.
He also said that Dhoni is the Picasso of this art. Noting that he remains as cool as an ice under such pressure-cooker situations, he thanked the former Indian captain after learning so many things from him in the past.
“I guess it comes from experience. That can’t be bought. You learn it over the years – it’s important to stay calm. Dhoni is a great example of that. You can see how calm he is, and you learn a lot of things from a lot of people, and one thing I’ve learned from Dhoni is how he finishes.”
