Team Sri Lanka is all set to host their subcontinental neighbors – India and Bangladesh – in a T20I tri-series. The series has been named as the Nidahas Trophy. The tournament will get underway on March 6 with the hosts taking on the pre-tournament favorites team India. Nidahas Trophy is a very significant one for the Sri Lanka cricket. This is not the first time that the tournament will be played.

A couple of decades ago, the Nidahas Trophy was hosted by Sri Lanka as it marked the golden jubilee celebration of the Sri Lankan independence. And now, in the year 2018, the Nidahas Trophy marks the 70th independence celebration of Sri Lanka. Certainly, the historical importance makes it a very key tournament for the hosts.

Now, in a recent development, the Sri Lankan team have unveiled their new jersey for the series. The jersey indeed looks very attractive with a new design. The design is in stark contrast to the existing jersey design of the Sri Lankan limited overs outfit. For the ones who remember the Sri Lankan jersey from the previous Nidahas Trophy, the new one would look pretty similar.

Resemblance to the iconic jersey

It has a startling resemblance to that iconic jersey which Sri Lankan players sported a couple of decades ago. With the background set in dark blue color, the front of the jersey has squares colored with the colors of the national flag. Many might remember the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya wearing a similar jersey back then and lifting his willow after scoring runs at will.

Coming to the series, the fixtures come as an ideal platform for team Sri Lanka to end their dismal cricketing season on a high. Also, this is their last chance in the season to seek revenge from the Indian team that drubbed them twice across the three formats in the last six months. Furthermore, being the hosts, they would want to ensure they bring joy to their fans on the occasion of their independence.
