Nidahas Trophy 2018: Vijay Shankar bashed by fans for poor batting show
Vijay Shankar scored 17 runs off 19 balls, which included three boundaries
The Nidahas Trophy for the T20 triangular series featuring Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh recently came to a close. The series was organized to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 70th independence anniversary. Hosts Sri Lanka crashed out of the tournament, however, India and Bangladesh brought the curtains down with a thrilling encounter at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.
The Indian team management rested quite a few of the big names in order to test the bench strength. Vijay Shankar, the skipper of Tamil Nadu, made his debut in the series. He bowled reasonably well in the series, however, got an opportunity to bat in the Final. He came to bat after the dismissal f Rohit Sharma, India‘s skipper. India required 69 runs off 40 balls when Shankar took charge with the willow.
A struggle altogether for Shankar
However, he struggled throughout the entire duration of his knock. He churned out three boundaries but played way too many dot deliveries which built the pressure on their batsmen. He played four consecutive dot balls off Mustafizur Rahman in the left-arm pacer’s final over. The Fizz’s off-cutters turned out to be too hot to handle for Shankar as he flayed his bat haplessly for no results.
Nevertheless, he churned out a boundary in the final over against Soumya Sarkar when he guided the ball to the third-man region. He was eventually dismissed in the penultimate delivery of the game when he tried to clear the ropes only to holed out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz at long-off. However, Karthik finished the game off with an outrageous stroke over the covers and won the game for his country.
Meanwhile, Twitter was unhappy with Shankar’s lackluster performance with the willow and bashed him severely for creating unnecessary pressure.
