Sri Lanka batsman Niroshan Dickwella was in for a major surprise when he addressed the media after the end of second day’s play of the ongoing first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Much to his utter surprise, Dickwella found out that a journalist does not even know him as the latter called the cricketer de Silva.

The blunder from the Pakistani journalist has been all over the social media and understandably so. When Dickwella arrived for the customary press conference, he was mistaken for his teammate Dhananjaya de Silva – not once but twice. But the Sri Lanka star won over everyone with his brilliant calm and composed reaction.

The journalist began his first question by saying “you played well…” before Dickwella interjected by saying: “I’m Dickwella actually. I’m not de Silva”. But the journalist perhaps did not pay attention to what Dickwella said as he made the mistake once again. The reporter once again made it clear that he still did not know the cricketer was Dickwella and not de Silva as he said:

“You played well on this pitch and in these conditions. Are you thinking a hundred on this pitch?”

“You mean me? I am Dickwella, not de Silva,” Dickwella replied with a laugh. “I got out. I am already out in the pavilion. Maybe in the second innings.”

Dickwella had, in fact, returned to the pavilion after scoring 33 in the first innings while de Silva was still unbeaten at stumps having scored a fighting 72.

Here is a clip of that incident from the press-conference:

Bad light plays spoilsport in the Test

Bad weather spoiled the second day of Pakistan’s first home cricket Test in more than 10 years as only 18.2 overs could be bowled on Thursday. Resuming on 202-5, Sri Lanka reached 263-6 when play was called off at 3:30 pm due to bad light. Niroshan Dickwella on 33 was the only wicket to fall. Sri Lanka added 20 runs before the rain arrived after only 35 minutes of play in the first session.

Play resumed after a break of more than 2 hours and Pakistan finally got the breakthrough with the second new ball during 10 overs of play. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi dismissed Dickwella before the game was halted once again and the umpires eventually called the day off.
