No conflict with skipper Sarfraz Ahmed: PCB committee chairman Mohsin Khan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) committee chairman and former Pakistan opener Mohsin Khan, who had reportedly suggested that Sarfraz Ahmed should be relieved from his captaincy in the longer format, has denied any kind of rift with the skipper. In fact, he said that he has great respect for the Pakistani skipper.

Khan, who clarified that the statement was given about a year and a half ago, said he thought Ahmed should concentrate on leading Pakistan in limited overs cricket only to avoid stress as he was still very young, passionate and energetic. However, Khan believes Ahmed has done a decent job in leading Pakistan in all three formats. as after suffering defeats initially, he has brought the team back on the winning track.

Ahmed ever since has taken the captaincy in his hands, has turned the fortunes of the team, which at once was finding it difficult to find the right balance, after the retirement of the veterans like Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq. He has brought the best out of his team by continuously motivating and believing in them.

Mohsin opens up

Khan while speaking to the Express Tribune was quoted as saying, “I had given the statement regarding Sarfraz’s Test captaincy about a year and a half ago. At that time I had thought that he was young, passionate and energetic so he should only be leading Pakistan in limited-overs to avoid stress.”

“However, now Sarfraz has seen many phases of life. He had suffered defeats in all three formats and now finally he is on a winning track,” he added. Reflecting on the four-member cricket committee, which was recently formed with the motive of overseeing Pakistan’s cricket affairs, Khan said that he has joined it only for the betterment of the cricket.” he further added.

Mohsin, when quizzed about his choice of captain for the 2019 cricket World Cup, said the decision in this matter will be taken by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani. The PCB committee, consisting of Pakistan greats like Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and Urooj Mumtaz besides Mohsin Khan, will just give suggestions based on merit but the final decision will be taken by PCB chairman.
