‘No flaw in technique, there is lack of confidence’ – Wasim Jaffer weighs in on Virat Kohli’s form

Indian batting legend Virat Kohli was dismissed for 23 in the first innings of the second Test match against the Sri Lankan side in Bangalore. And now, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has opened up on Kohli’s run with the willow.

Jaffer feels that Kohli does not have any flaws in his technique. The former opening batter added that Kohli has not scored enough runs and as a result, he is not having a lot of confidence when he plays out in the middle. Jaffer also feels that once the batting maestro scores a century, he will find form and the world will once again get to see the old Kohli.

“There is nothing like that (on whether there are flaws in Kohli’s technique). He doesn’t have enough runs under his belt and there is a lack of confidence. The kind of runs that we expect from Kohli is not seen. Once he gets to that hundred and he finds form, I am quite sure that we will get to see the old Virat Kohli,” said Jaffer in a chat with ESPNCricinfo.

Shreyas Iyer scored a superb 92 in the first innings for India and helped them post a total of 252. And, Jaffer feels that Iyer’s knock was not the best played by an Indian batter in recent times in the whites. Jaffer reasoned that Rishabh Pant has played some superb knocks for the Indian side recently. However, he concluded by stating that in the context of the match, Iyer played a great innings.

“I don’t think so (on Shreyas Iyer’s knock being the best by an Indian in recent times). There are many knocks of Rishabh Pant that have been magnificent. But definitely if you see the context of this Test match and the direction in which it is going, then it is a great knock,” concluded Jaffer.
