'No hopes from Rahane now' - Twitter in dismay as Ajinkya Rahane yet again fails to convert his start
Ajinkya Rahane scored 35 runs on day one of the Kanpur Test before being knocked down.
India is currently up against New Zealand in the first Test of the two-match Test series. After sealing the T20Is clinically, the home men are expected to cash in on the opportunities in the purest format of the game as well. In this case, Ajinkya Rahane, the skipper for the 1st Test was expected to stand tall but it was again a dismal show on the table from his side.
Rahane, who has been constantly struggling to flaunt his usual class, was knocked down yet again cheaply as he couldn’t make the best of his innings. The skipper of the side turned his back after scoring just 35 runs as in-form Kyle Jamieson continued to trouble the Indian side.
Talking about the 33-year-old Mumbai batter, his form has been turning into a huge cause of concern as he is unable to produce anything from his bat for a long time. Only a single fifty-plus score has come from his end after scoring a much-needed ton for the then devastated India side in Melbourne last year. However, it remains to be seen when Rahane will be able to shine again.
Here is how Twitter reacted after seeing Ajinkya Rahane fail yet again
It was only before the start of the Test series when former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir came hard on Rahane by stating he is lucky to be part of this Test side. It has to be noted that Rohit Sharma has been rested from the Tests and regular skipper Virat Kohli will join the side from the next Test in Mumbai and in this case, it was all the more important for Rahane to hold the fort for the host side.
“I am going to open with Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul because he opened in England and then probably Shubman Gill will bat at No. 4. Plus, Rahane is pretty fortunate that he’s still part of this side because he’s leading. But again, he’s got another opportunity now, hopefully, he can make that count,” Gambhir said earlier.
Talking of the match so far, India stands 154/4 after the first session of the game where Shubman Gill’s half-century early on made the difference and Kyle Jamieson is wreaking havoc with three scalps already under his belt.
