No one gave me a satisfactory answer on my axing from the Indian team: Amit Mishra

Due to the colossal pressure and cut-throat competition in the Indian squad, many players get dropped from the side after failing to deliver at a consistent rate. Amit Mishra is one such player who has been sidelined from the national side despite scalping wickets at every level. The leg-spinner has consistently delivered in the Ranji Trophy for Haryana.

Mishra even has an impressive IPL record since the past two seasons. In 21 matches in the previous two IPL editions, the leg-spinner has scalped 23 wickets with best figures of 3/17. However, Mishra has failed to make a comeback into the national side. He has not played for India since he suffered an injury in the T20I series against England in February 2017.

Recently, the leg-spinner questioned his return to the national side. According to Mishra, he still is baffled over his future in the Indian team as he hasn’t been able to return back in the national squad.

“I still question myself why this happened to me. No one has been able to give me a satisfactory answer. It was a rule in the team that if someone was forced out with an injury, he would come back to the team. Wriddhiman Saha made a comeback after a 1.5-year injury layoff. I don’t know why this did not happen with me,” Mishra said in an interaction with Sports Tak.

“Even when I was in form, whenever the axe needed to fall on someone, it had to be Mishra,” said the leg-spinner.

Mishra said he received no communication from the selectors or the team management on what he needed to do for increasing his chances to make a comeback. Mishra said, “I have performed for India at every opportunity, even when thrown into the toughest situations.”

Mishra also expressed that his one last wish is to play for India one last time, preferably in the T20I format. “I was removed from the team at the peak of my performance because of injury,” said the leg-spinner.

He even opened up about the support which the likes of MS Dhoni got from former skipper Sourav Ganguly. “I could have played 70-80 Test matches if I had that kind of support.”
