Since his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Mumbai Indians, Mitchell McClenaghan has paved his way to becoming a vital cog of their bowling force. After joining Mumbai Indians in 2015, the Kiwi pacer has showcased some impressive spells in his IPL career. McClenaghan had joined the Mumbai squad as a replacement for Corey Anderson. The 33-year-old left no stones unturned to steer his side to the IPL trophy in 2015.
Considering his performances over the years, Mumbai has retained him ahead of the auctions of the next season of the cash-rich tournament. The New Zealand speedster has scalped 71 wickets from 56 IPL matches while representing the Rohit Sharma-led side. The left-hander also had a decent outing in the recently-concluded Abu Dhabi T10 League. His franchise Maratha Arabians clinched the trophy by defeating Deccan Gladiators in the final.
Mumbai Indians’ fans would be elated if McClenaghan continues his form to steer them to their fourth IPL trophy next season. McClenaghan recently posted a picture on social media along with Maratha Arabians’ teammates celebrating their title win in Abu Dhabi. He also added the image from the archive of Mumbai Indians winning the trophy earlier this year and captioned the picture as who’s next.
Mitchell McClenaghan’s reply won the hearts of many Mumbai Indians’ fans
An ardent Mumbai Indians fan expressed on the photo that he wanted McClenaghan to go past Malinga as their all-time greatest overseas bowlers. The Kiwi pacer won the heart of all Mumbai Indians fans by his admirable reply. He stated that he was happy to sit a close second to Malinga, who is an absolute genius.
I’m happy to sit a close second to that absolute genius – no one is allowed to be better than Malinga!

Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Malinga has been a significant player for Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians. Unconventional bowling action, toe-crushing yorkers and impeccable accuracy – the three things set him apart from other fast bowlers. Having the experience of 122 IPL matches under his belt, Malinga has scalped 170 wickets including 6 four-wicket hauls and 1 five-wicket haul. The Sri Lankan pacer is expected to play an integral role for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL 2020 too.
