No physiotherapist in the fitness camp organised at MCA's indoor academy
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), the governing body of cricket in Mumbai, can easily be counted as one of the best in the country. The Association has always made sure that the players and budding cricketer get the best coaches, facilities and infrastructure for their use. Considering all these, one would be quite surprised to hear that the ongoing ‘Fitness Camp’ organised by the MCA has no physiotherapist at the venue.
There isn’t a single physiotherapist to attend to about 150 players, who’re currently taking part in what is incidentally known as a ‘fitness camp’ for the various age-group teams, right from the Ranji to the U-12 level, at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s indoor academy in BKC, reports TOI.
This simply means that there would be no one knowledgeable person on site if a player suffers a serious injury. The 150 kids group has only two trainers looking after them. The batches, however, re different; therefore it is manageable. But, the absence of a qualified physio can be a bit of concern.
“Even the contracts of all the coaches have been kept in abeyance. It was decided in our last managing committee meeting to make all fresh appointments only after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Lodha Committee recommendations, which, if they’re implemented, would reduce the Board’s income substantially.

“Since it would have a ripple effect on us, and we may need to cut costs subsequently, we’ve decided to keep things in limbo for now,” said an official.
