The year of 2019 is an exciting one for the cricket fans. The mega event, the ICC Cricket World Cup, is all set to be played this year. With the tournament drawing close, the critics and pundits have started their paperwork predicting who would make the cut for their respective sides for the coveted tournament. Among the lot, the eyes are pretty much glued to the Indian squad, who are not only tagged as the pre-tournament favorites, but are also facing a problem of plenty.
While other teams are struggling to find in-form players, team India has a very strong bench strength in place as well, leading it to be a difficult task for the selectors to pick 15 for the World Cup. Who all manage to make it to the side, remains to be seen. As of now, if Aakash Chopra is to be believed, then the player who could potentially miss out on being picked could be Ravindra Jadeja.
As per the recent reports in Times Now, Aakash Chopra mentioned that someone like Khaleel Ahmed deserves a chance for the fact that he adds variety to the bowling lineup. He reckons that Jadeja could miss out since he does fit into the side as an extra batsman, nor does he stand a chance with the wrist spinners succeeding at the moment with the white ball formats.
Rayudu bags a spot?
Furthermore, Aakash Chopra feels that Ambati Rayudu sealed his World Cup berth with a gritty 90 in the final ODI against New Zealand. He feels that Rayudu has served his case well enough by doing well in trying conditions.
“Rayudu was the last one to enter the race and it needed only a handful of good knocks to put him at the top of the queue. Late starters have a significant advantage while the team is closing in on a world event, for there’s hardly any time left for experimentation. There were some question marks about Rayudu’s efficiency in trying circumstances but the last game of this tour has sealed his place,” mentioned Aakash Chopra.
