No selector born in India who can drop Virat Kohli: Rashid Latif
Virat Kohli's average in 2022 is the lowest across formats for a calendar year in his career.
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has said that there have been no selectors born in India who can drop Virat Kohli from the team, as the Indian batter is going through a lean patch with the bat for India. Kohli averages 25.50 across all three formats in 2022, his lowest average in a calendar year.
The former India captain scored 16 in the second ODI against England, on July 14 at Lord’s. In the T20I series before that, he scored 1 and 11 in the two matches as his torrid run with the bat continued.
“India mein wo selector paida nahi hua hai jo Virat (Kohli) ko drop kar sake,” said Rashid Latif during a chat with the YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’ when asked if Kohli should be dropped from the team.
‘This too shall pass, stay strong’ – Babar Azam comes out in support of Virat Kohli
Kohli is going through a century drought as he last scored an international century in November 2019. After failing to contribute with the bat yet again on Thursday, Pakistan captain Babar Azam showed his support on Twitter. “This too shall pass. Stay strong. #ViratKohli,” Babar tweeted.
In the second ODI at Lord’s, Jos Buttler’s men batted first and posted a total of 246. A late show from Moeen Ali and David Willey helped England post a respectable total after they lost four wickets for 87 runs. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he finished with four wickets for 47 runs in ten overs.
Six Indian batters failed to get into double figures score, and the all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya were the top scores for the Men in Blue as both scored 29 runs off 44 balls. India were bowled out for 146 runs in 38.5 overs and the Player of the Match was given to English fast bowler Reece Topley, who picked up six wickets for 24 runs in 9.5 overs. The series is now level on 1-1 and the decider will be played on Sunday at Old Trafford, Manchester.
