No Test experience sees Rashid Khan miss out on County contract
Rashid is among the top 10 bowlers in both the shorter formats of the game.
Young Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan is arguably one of the hottest properties in the world cricket. The way the 18 year old has jumped leaps and bounds in the last couple of years is commendable. Needless to say, he has fetched the attention of several team camps who are trying to rope him in to their rosters for various competitions. The most recent of all was in the County Championships.
Considering the red hot form that Rashid has been in, several teams wanted to rope him in for the tournament this year. However, the fact that he has played no Test matches till date saw him miss out on the coveted County contract. On the personal level, Rashid Khan would have benefited a great deal had he played in the English conditions in the tournament.
The rules for participating in the County Championships clearly state that only players from the Elite Level teams can participate. This, in essence, means that only players from Test playing nations can participate in the tournament. With Afghanistan and Ireland being granted the Test status last week, the County sides were quick to enquire if they could rope in Rashid Khan.
No Test experience
However, due to the fact that Rashid is yet to make his Test debut, the chances were ruled out. As per the reports in the Dailymail.co.uk, two Counties have already contacted Rashid for the 2018 edition of the domestic tournament. Rashid recently played in the Indian Premier League for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. His successful campaign in the tournament saw him draw praise from all corners.
At the international level, he has been phenomenal. He recently bagged 7 wicket haul in an ODI fixture against West Indies. Considering the rankings, Rashid is among the top 10 bowlers in both the shorter formats of the game. He has been the man with the golden arm for team Afghanistan.
