The fearsome opening batsman for the Kings XI Punjab, Manan Vohra who has been an integral part of the side since he made debut back in 2013, feels that being a consistent performer in T20 games is a tall order to ask for from a batsman.

The 23-year old batsman from Chandigarh believes that the batsmen almost have no time to get their eye in. Therefore, they have to back their abilities to go after the bowling come what may.

“I think it is a lot because we don’t have much time to focus. We don’t have much balls to get our eye in. So, it’s very important that we just keep backing ourselves in whatever situation we are in. It is very difficult to maintain consistency in this shorter format,” said the carefree Kings XI Punjab batsman according to the Times of India.

This may be due to the fact that Manan has only managed to average 25.11 in the 40 games he has played. He has amassed as many as 904 runs at an effective strike rate of 134.72. He has scored three half centuries overall during the five seasons of the IPL.

However, Vohra may have played the defining knock in his IPL career 10 days back against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, while chasing a moderate total of 159. Even though Kings XI Punjab fell short of the target by just 5 runs, he threatened to chase down the target single-handedly as he scored a swashbuckling 50-ball 95 at a staggering strike rate of 190.

What made the innings special was the circumstances it was delivered in. KXIP were tottering at 82/6 after the end of the 14th over. He smashed the SRH bowlers to the cleaners with no support from the other end. His herculean effort was eventually put to an end by the Purple cap holder Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.

The right-hand opener would play a key role tomorrow as they would want to take vengeance for their defeat at Hyderabad. KXIP play the Sunrisers at Mohali tomorrow.
