Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who recently returned to the international setup in limited-overs cricket has opened up on being in a stage of his life where he has stopped assessing his performance. The 35-year-old has been rested for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, after being in the IPL 2022 bio-bubble for two months. Ashwin has been a revelation across formats for India in the last two years and he will return to the squad for the fifth Test in England.

Ashwin recently was part of the Rajasthan Royals in the finals of IPL 2022 and he had a fantastic season in terms of his economy rate, although he did not pick up many wickets to his liking. His batting potential was used by the Royals wisely and he is one one the strong contenders to make it to the T20 World Cup 2022 for Australia as the spin all-rounder. In a recent chat, Ashwin revealed how he had been able to consistently perform in the last two years in IPL.

I am living it by the day: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin noted that he hasn’t been bothered with his performances and revealed that he has stuck to staying in the present while not thinking over the past. He added about the last two years being very productive for him and mentioned being in a good frame of mind as well. Ashwin has taken 442 wickets in 86 Tests for India at an average of 24.13 and is considered to be among the all-time great spinners to have played the Test format.

“If you want a realistic answer, I am not assessing my performance at all. I am not in that phase of my life where I am thinking about what happened. Like I told you, I am living it by the day.”

“The last two years have been hard on a lot of people but it has been very very kind and good to me. So just enjoying my game. I don’t know if it is evident enough on the ground or not. I am totally in a very good space of mind,” Ashwin was quoted during the launch of Voot Select’s ‘Bandon Mein Tha Dum’.
