I am not at war with ICC; I too want cricket to continue says, N Srinivasan

There is a certain section of people who truly believe that it was N Srinivasan who lifted India on the cricketing map with his dynamic administration and ever-present views on issues. However, there is also the section who blame the former President for the turmoil that the BCCI is undergoing currently.

Eyebrows were certainly raised when the 71-year-old Tamil Nadu man faced resistance from the members and had to pull back from BCCI’s meeting, for the first time in his career. It was definitely a threatening sign for a person who was at the top of all affairs until he was removed from the post.

“I won’t say there was confrontation. But when Mr Srinivasan joined the SGM via Skype, the first thing he spoke about was issuing a notice to ICC. There was immediate objection from Maharashtra Cricket Association president Abhay Apte and IPL GC chairman Rajeev Shukla,” Mid-Day quoted a source as saying.

As per the state unit official present at the meeting, N Srinivasan did not expect this attack coming from the other side of the phone.

“The main objection was that sending a notice would jeopardise India’s chances as a 30-day cure of breach period would only end after June 4. A few others also voiced their dissent. Suddenly Srinivasan gauged that this is not the BCCI that he ruled with iron hand. He agreed and said, ‘I am not at war with ICC. I also want cricket to continue,’ ” he said, according to the reports from the PTI

It looks unlikely that the conflict will be solved in the coming days after the mini-crisis between BCCI and N Srinivasan. However, once the conflict is solved, with the Board approving the team’s participation and the selectors naming the squad for the Champions Trophy. It looks more likely than not that Srinivasan may return to the fore albeit an acceptance from the Lodha Committee, who currently are governing the BCCI.
