'Now I will invite Pravin Amre sir for dinner' - Shreyas Iyer after his century on Test debut

Shreyas Iyer experienced a scintillating start to his Test career. The right-handed batter scored a superb 105 on debut and helped India post a total of 345 on the board against New Zealand.

And now, Iyer has revealed that he can invite Pravin Amre, his coach to his house for dinner. Amre had told Iyer that he would come and eat dinner with Iyer only if the right-hander scored a Test century. And now, Iyer has accomplished this feat.

“So after today’s game, not game, basically after today’s century, I’ll message him and invite him for dinner,” said Iyer at the end of the second day’s play.

Shreyas Iyer also said that whenever he goes for training, his coach would tell him that he has already achieved a lot in limited-overs cricket, as Iyer has already captained an IPL team and has also scored a lot of runs as well.

The 26-year-old also added that Amre would tell Iyer that his main achievement would be when he is able to wear the Indian cap in Test match cricket. Iyer also feels that his coach would be very happy as his pupil has made his debut for his country in the longest format of the game.

“Pravin sir obviously, whenever I go for training, he keeps on saying that you have achieved a lot in your life, you have been the captain of an IPL team, you have scored so many runs, this and that, but that was in white-ball cricket. But your main achievement would be when you receive the Test cap and I am sure he would be really happy when I received it,” added Iyer.

Iyer also added that he has received a lot of congratulatory messages for his superb ton, and concluded by stating that these messages took him back to his days with Mumbai cricket.

“I received a lot of messages and all were saying that this is an achievement and this is the best thing you have achieved in life and it took me back to my Mumbai cricketing days, it is a good feeling,” concluded Iyer.
