Nurul Hasan has been made Bangladesh T20I skipper because he is worthy of it: Shakib Al Hasan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Nurul Hasan Sohan as the captain of their side for the T20I series against Zimbabwe as Mahmudullah Riyad has been rested. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan reckons that Sohan is worthy of that role, adding that the appointment can give a lot to their side in the future.

The all-rounder believes that Zimbabwe series will be a good challenge and Nurul will be able to overcome that. Meanwhile, the Cricket Operations Chairman of the BCB, Jalal Yunus clarified that Mahmudullah will remain as their regular T20I captain. 

“I think he has been given the captaincy because he is worthy of it,” Shakib said as quoted by India Today. “BCB thinks that it can give a lot to Bangladesh in the future. That is why he was actually given the captaincy. I wish him all the best. The Zimbabwe series will be a good challenge. I hope he can overcome that challenge.”

The issue of Riyad’s captaincy was discussed: Yunus

Reportedly, the BCB was unhappy with Mahmudullah’s style of captaincy in the T20I format. Yunus said that the board has been discussing the issue for some time now. He said that they also discussed the captaincy matter with Mahmudullah during a recent meeting, after which it was decided that a new team would be sent for the Zimbabwe series.

“We have been discussing the T20 team for several days. The issue of Riyad’s captaincy was discussed. Today we called Riyad and discussed the T20 team. After discussing with him, we have decided to send a new team. We will try with some new players. That’s why we’ve chosen Sohan to lead the team,” Yunus was quoted as saying.

Bangladesh will tour Zimbabwe for three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting on July 30 and August 5, respectively. All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club, Harare. This will also be Bangladesh’s first T20I series since Tamim Iqbal’s retirement.
