Nuwan Kulasekara released on bail after being arrested
Sri Lankan pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara was involved in a road accident on Monday. The police were quick to detain him as the accident eventually killed a 28-year old man. Kulasekara, however, managed to get the bail by evening and was released thereafter.
According to the sources, the detailed report of the accident is yet to be disclosed by the police. However, the police confirmed that they decided to release the pace bowler after deducing that the accident was not his fault. Nuwan Kulasekara was unavailable for any comments on the same.
Speculations have been made that the accident was definitely a major one since the arrests are usually made only for the crimes of higher magnitude. This is not the first incidence when a cricketer has been caught in the case of rash driving or has been charged with an accident blame. There have been many cricketers who have faced the heat in drunk driving cases and rash driving cases.
Kulasekara has not been in the best of the forms on the field either. He has been in and out of the national side following inconsistent performances. Once tipped as the spearhead of the Sri Lanka bowling attack, the 33-year old fast bowler called it quits in the longest format of the game after the English summer last year in June. Sri Lanka had emerged victorious back then.
In the 21 Tests that he played for his country, he scalped 48 wickets at an average of 37.37. His bowling in the limited overs formats has been far better compared to his heroics in Test arena.

His reason for retiring from the Test cricket was in order to ensure a prolonged international career. The swing bowler aimed at concentrating only on the shorter formats of the game, particularly the T20 cricket. However, now being involved in a serious case like this, it can only be hoped for the pacer that he manages to be in action on the field rather than off the field.
