The second game of the three-match ODI series between New Zealand and Bangladesh will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on 20th March 2021.

In the build-up to the ODI series, the Bangladesh side seemed capable enough to beat the New Zealand team, that was without their captain Kane Williamson. However, in the first ODI, they were no match to the Blackcaps’ pace-bowling attack. Trent Boult produced a fantastic spell of 4/27 right, creating pressure on the visitors. 

The pitch in Dunedin offered the Kiwi pacers some swing, which didn’t allow Bangladesh to build partnerships. The visitors managed only 131 runs. Understandably so, the Bangladeshi captain demanded the batsmen to come up and take more responsibility with the bat at the post-match conference.

On the contrary, the clinical performance by his side did make the stand-in New Zealand captain Tom Latham happy. In the second match of the series, Bangladesh will have to come harder at New Zealand’s new-ball attack which, will once again pose several tough questions. For the hosts, it will be an opportunity to seal the series and look for some experimentation in the final game of the series.

He has over 6200 runs in ODIs with an average of 36.35, but since 2015, his average has been touching 50 in this format.  

Martin Guptill

In the first ODI, it seemed as if Martin Guptill hasn’t got out of the T20 mindset as he smashed a quickfire 38 from 19 balls only. His knock had three fours and four sixes. However, his approach was quite obvious given that Bangladesh had given only 131 runs to chase. In the second match, Guptill would like to score a big one and capitalise on the start.
