NZ vs PAK, 2020-21: 2nd Test, Day 4 – New Zealand’s longest winning spree, Jamieson's record effort with the ball and more stats

New Zealand required a couple of sessions on the 4th day at the Hagley Oval to complete a Test series win against Pakistan. No batsman lasting even 100 balls in the second essay saw Pakistan getting bowled out for only 186 and lose the game by a margin of an innings and 176 runs. Kyle Jamieson was the star with the ball for Kiwis who ended up with a 6-wicket haul adding up to his five wickets in the first essay.

Here are all the statistical highlights from yet another home series win for New Zealand in Test cricket:

New Zealand’s longest winning spree:

6 – New Zealand now has won each of their last six matches in Test cricket which is now their longest streak in this format. Their previous longest winning streak in Test cricket is of five matches that came between 2005 and 2006.

8* – New Zealand won each of the eight Test series they played at home since losing to South Africa at the start of 2017. They never won more than four series in succession at home before this streak.

New Zealand’s success at Hagley Oval:

6 – New Zealand have not lost any of the six Test matches they played at the Christchurch’s Hagley Oval since losing to Australia in 2016. In those six Tests, the Kiwis won as many as five games while another fixture ended in a draw.

7/8 – New Zealand has won seven of their last eight matches against Pakistan in Test cricket. In those eight Tests, the Kiwis won all the four they played at home and won three of the four played in UAE.

New Zealand boosted by top individual efforts:

1 – Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson became the first New Zealand pair to score a double century and bag 10 or more wickets in the same Test match at home. New Zealand had such efforts twice before the Christchurch Test; both coming outside New Zealand – vs Bangladesh in 2004 Chattogram Test and vs Pakistan in 2014 Sharjah Test.

Jamieson only behind Hadlee:

11/117 – Kyle Jamieson’s match figures of 11/117 are the best for a New Zealand pacer in a Test match since Sir Richard Hadlee’s 15/123 in the 1985 Brisbane Test match. In fact, Jamieson’s match figures are the 4th best for a New Zealand pacer with the top three spots belonging to Hadlee only.

2004 – Kyle Jamieson became the first New Zealand player to claim 5-wicket hauls in both innings of a Test match since Daniel Vettori in the 2004 Chattogram Test against Bangladesh.

The very same year was the last instance of a New Zealand pacer with twin 5-fers in a Test match and also the last instance of their bowler with multiple 5-fers in a home Test as Chris Martin achieved this feat against South Africa in the Auckland Test.

Maiden wicket as captain for Kane:

1 – The wicket of Shaheen Afridi was the first as a captain in Test cricket for Kane Williamson across 35 matches. Williamson has claimed 30 wickets in the longer format thus far with the last of them coming way back in 2016.

It was also the first wicket fell to a spinner in International cricket this year as pacers bagged 55 of the 56 wickets fell across the Christchurch and Johannesburg Test matches.

238 – The score of 238 by Williamson is now the 5th highest for any captain in a Test match where they picked a wicket. The highest is 333 by Graham Gooch in the 1990 Lord’s Test against England where he picked a wicket. Williamson is also the first New Zealand captain to score a double century and also pick a wicket in the same Test match.
