'Obviously a disappointing finish, but a lot of positives too' - Tom Moody reflects on SRH's IPL 2022 campaign

A disappointing season came to an end for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they finished eighth on this year’s IPL points table. SRH failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second straight year. In the same light, SRH head coach Tom Moody has expressed his disappointment but still, has pointed out some bright spots for future aspects.

Moody, in a video posted by SRH, said that the 2022 season has ended in a disappointing manner but there are a lot of positives that can be taken into account in the future. He pointed out three uncapped Indian players – Abhishek Sharma, Umran Malik, and Rahul Tripathi – as the three standout performers of the season.

He even added that a big call-up is not so far for Rahul Tripathi as his dynamic playing style has been the major talking point. Moody said that the loss against Gujarat Titans in the last few overs was the major turning point in their season as they did not expect GT to win that match.

Apart from this, he also thanked experienced players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar for their continuous support throughout the tournament. Moody said: “We have got plenty to work on and we are aware of that.”

He expressed that they would have loved to finish much higher on the table but some unwanted incidents in the middle prevented them to do so. Mid-season injuries to Washington Sundar and Natarajan affected their momentum heavily.

Tom Moody assured SRH fans that they will come back strongly next year by making some adjustments to the currently available squad. He said: “Overall, we are excited with the squad we have got. However, we will make certain adjustments to be stronger in 2023.” He also thanked the fans for their endless support as always, with a hope to play in front of them in IPL 2023.
