Oman invites domestic giants Mumbai for 3 T20s, 3 ODs ahead of T20 World Cup 2021
According to the proposal that is been sent out by Oman Cricket, the Mumbai team will depart for Muscat on August 19 and then undergo quarantine on August 20.
The Oman Cricket Association has come forward to invite the Ranji Trophy giants Mumbai to play a few games ahead of the T20 World Cup. Oman’s Chief Development Officer Duleep Mendis has sent the invitation to the team for playing three T20s and three One-Days in Muscat ahead of the marquee event.
Previously, the BCCI had requested to shift the World Cup from India owing to the uncertainties of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. Muscat is also amongst the four cities in which the World Cup games will be played. The qualifiers, which are the first round of the tournament, will be held in Muscat. With the view of providing Oman with some good game practice prior to playing the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, Mendis has written a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association about the same.
“On behalf of Oman Cricket, we would like to invite the Mumbai Cricket team to play matches against Oman’s national cricket team. As we understand that both teams are currently preparing for the upcoming season, it will be an excellent opportunity for the players to get some quality practice just before the commencement of the season,” states the letter written by Mendis as quoted by Malaysia Sun.
Mumbai team to travel to Oman ahead of the T20 World Cup
According to the proposal that is been sent out by Oman Cricket, the Mumbai team will depart for Muscat on August 19 and then undergo quarantine on August 20. The team will be allowed to train from the next day with the three T20s scheduled to be played on August 22, 24, and 26. This will then be followed by the three One-Days that are staged for August 29, 31, and September 2. The team will then head back home on September 3. This will help the side to get some real game time and make necessary tweaks before they head on to play in the World Cup.
The Mumbai Cricket Association is likely to accept the invitation but as per the sources within the MCA, the details of the tour are being worked out. “We have been invited for the tour between August 19-September 3. The details of the tour to Oman are still being worked out,” the source pointed.
