Sanjay Manjrekar has been a recipient of severe brickbats and backlashes over quite some time now. A few days ago, a fan complained to the International Cricket Council (ICC), surrounding Manjrekar, showing bias while being on air. Manjrekar called Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni as ‘our watchdog behind the stumps’ and those words didn’t go down well with the supporters.

Recently, Manjrekar, who’s also a former Indian cricketer, went into an altercation with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. He called the 30-year-old a ‘bits and pieces’ player and mentioned he doesn’t fit the bill in ODI cricket by any means and is only a specialist bowler in Test cricket. Manjrekar said that he doesn’t like the southpaw and Jadeja didn’t like those harsh and stern words.

Jadeja rips Manjrekar into ‘bits and pieces’

Jadeja referred to his comments as ‘verbal diarrhoea’ and asked him to respect people with achievements. The Saurashtra-born Jadeja had to wait before getting his first chance in the 2019 World Cup. After a decent outing against Sri Lanka, he came into his own versus New Zealand in the semi-final at the Old Trafford in Manchester. With the ball, he got Henry Nicholls’ wicket.

Thereafter, he stomped out and churned out 77 runs that almost took India over the finishing line. The Men in Blue lost the game by 18 runs and bowed out of the mega event in England and Wales. In a post-match show, Manjrekar admitted that Jadeja ripped him apart into ‘bits and pieces’ from all the counts.

Yesterday, Manjrekar turned 54 and even on the auspicious occasion, people didn’t leave any stone unturned in bashing the commentator. Even as wishes flowed in, the fans asked him to quit commentary. In the meantime, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has had enough of ‘assault to the ears’, something which can be related to commentary.

The Twitter handle of the franchise took to Twitter and wrote, “Let’s look at the brighter side. No more assault on the ears!”

The fans believe that the message was targeted at Manjrekar for his incessant commentary. Subsequently, the supporters kept naming him in their replies.
