'One-man show' - Twitter in awe of KL Rahul after he smashes his second ton of IPL 2022
KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 62-ball 103 against MI.
After an impressive 18-run win in the reverse fixture last week, the Lucknow Super Giants would be hoping to do the double over the Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2022 clash that is currently underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Just like their previous clash, it was MI skipper Rohit Sharma who once again called it right at the toss and elected to bat first.
While LSG did lose their top-order, skipper KL Rahul stood tall overcoming all hurdles, and single-handedly rebuilt the innings for his side by challenging the Mumbai bowling attack. It was just a matter of time before the Karnataka cricketer cut loose and the MI bowlers including pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah failed to stop him in the powerplay and middle overs.
KL Rahul scores his second century of IPL 2022
After Quinton de Kock departed early with just 10 runs to his name, Rahul and Manish Pandey went on to add 58 runs for the second wicket stand before the latter was dismissed for a run-a-ball 22. However, LSG soon found themselves in a spot of bother with back-to-back wickets of Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya cheaply.
Despite a sudden middle-order collapse including Deepak Hooda’s dismissal for 10 runs and Lucknow losing half their side in the 16th over, KL Rahul showed no signs of panic and held his nerves as he continued to keep the scoreboard ticking. Even though he was well set and had already scored a vital half-century, Rahul did not hesitate in accelerating as he played some smart cricket in the middle overs despite running out of partners at the other end.
The 30-year-old then took the attack to the bowlers once the death overs started with a flurry of boundaries. He completely took up the responsibility and led Lucknow from the front with the bat in the remaining overs and scored his second century this season and co-incidentally against the very same opposition.
KL Rahul breached the three-figure mark off just 61 deliveries. His unbeaten 103 runs from 62 balls including 12 fours and four sixes at an outstanding strike rate of 166.1 powered Lucknow Super Giants to a fighting total of 168/6 from their 20 overs.
