One of the tougher powerplays I've batted in since I started playing T20 cricket: Mitchell Marsh
Marsh played a stunning knock of 89 off 62 against RR.
The last IPL 2022 match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals was all about the all-round brilliance produced by Mitchell Marsh. Firstly, he took two wickets when RR was put in to bat first and backed it with a stunning 89 off 62 while chasing alongside David Warner. Marsh opened up on his innings and added how he wanted to get back to his form after injury and going through COVID-19 trauma.
The Australian also stated that he hasn’t played a lot in the last three-four months and wanted a substantial inning from his bat. He was of the opinion that the powerplay against RR was one of the tougher ones that he had been put into so far. Marsh added how the struggle doubles up for a team if they lose two-three wickets in powerplay itself.
It is to be noted that DC started on a slow note and lost opener Srikar Bharat for a duck but what went after it was absolutely magical. While Marsh played a splendid knock of 89 runs, he found the best support in David Warner who smashed an unbeaten fifty to help the team’s cause.
RR bowled exceptionally well in the powerplay: Mitchell Marsh
“If you look at both teams in the powerplay tonight, the ball was swinging around, it was nipping around. It was probably one of the tougher powerplays that I’ve batted in since I started playing T20 cricket. We just had to get through it unscathed. If you’re 2-3 down in the powerplay the game gets really hard, so we assessed that we have to cut down on our runs to ensure we’re just one down at the end of the powerplay,” said Marsh as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“Credit to them, they bowled exceptionally well in the powerplay to us and made it really tough, but I think chasing 160, you’re only ever one big partnership away. That was our main focus,” he added.
