The Pakistan cricket team marked the nation’s Independence day with a win over England at The Oval to square the series 2-2 in the fourth and final match of the series. Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq said that the win was not just pleasing but also forms a legacy for the future teams.

The Asian heavyweights came into the match after the loss at Old Trafford and Birmingham with the hosts leading the series 2-1, with Pakistan winning the first Test at Lord’s. A draw was enough for the hosts to win the series but Pakistan showed a lot of determination to achieve a huge lead in the first innings, courtesy the double century from the veteran batsman Younis Khan and later on, they bowled out the host as leg-spinner Yasir Shah claimed 5 wickets in the second innings. Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets.

“The Oval win is not only pleasing as it is achieved on the Independence Day but it will also help us form a legacy for our future Test teams,” Misbah told AFP. “When I took over as captain that was my aim, so this win will help me leave a legacy for future Test teams,” the 42-year-old veteran skipper added.

The skipper feels that this win will give the team a lot of confidence as they are about to play against West Indies, New Zealand, and Australia. “It has been important for me to unite the team and unity always brings good results, even in challenging situations like in England. This series-levelling win will go a long way in establishing this team because in the next six months we have series against the West Indies, New Zealand, and Australia,” said Misbah.

“I kept telling the team that we have to follow the example of great teams who never look behind and keep working hard and that’s what we did,” he said. “It was like the Pakistan Movement that even in the time of adversity Quaid-e-Azam never abandoned the hard work,” he concluded.
