Veteran broadcaster Charu Sharma has come forward and expressed his gratitude to all the fans and well-wishers after his memorable outing as the auctioneer at the recently-concluded IPL 2022 mega auction. Sharma had to urgently step in and replace Hugh Edmeades who had suddenly collapsed on Day one of the event in Bengaluru and an early lunch had to be taken following the incident. It all happened while the bidding process for Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was on in full swing as Edmeades fainted leaving everyone at the auction room shell-shocked.

Even though Charu Sharma was requested to be the auctioneer for the IPL 2022 mega auction without any preparation time, he looked calm and composed during the event that had high stakes last weekend and ensured that the two-day auction went on smoothly. At the same time, the versatile presenter also had to take over the auctioneer’s duties during the second day of the event on Sunday as Hugh was fine but was unsure of giving his 100 percent.

The last few days have been dramatic: Charu Sharma

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the commentator posted a video on his official Twitter handle and expressed his gratitude to everyone after he had successfully got the job done.

“Hello, friends. I should have sent this message a couple of days earlier, but as some of you know, the last few days have been dramatic with my having to step in and conduct the IPL mega auction. Well, that story is out by now in detail. This message is to send my deepest gratitude to all of you on Twitter and many others who took the trouble to send words of appreciation,” he said.

“I may be an old warhorse but I am overwhelmed with this large wave of positivity and the flood of respect. Now I don’t know whether this wave of support will pull me back into commentating at major cricketing events. If it does, I am ready, as always. If it doesn’t, so be it. There is so much else to do in life” he added.
Charu Sharma concluded by giving a special mention to the IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) interim CEO as well as IPL COO Hemang Amin, the TV producer and the chief of the BCCI, and many others who worked tirelessly behind the scenes during the IPL 2022 mega auction and finally thanked all the fans for their kind and generous response.
