The 2019 World Cup in England and Wales is approximately five and a half months away and all the teams are straining every sinew to get their combinations right for the mega tournament. A total of ten teams would be taking part in the event with two of the sides- Windies and Afghanistan- coming from the qualifying round, staged in Zimbabwe back in March this year.
The World Cup also is set to return to England after a couple of decades. This time around, there won’t be any associate team participating in the World Cup after the International Cricket Council (ICC) pruned down the number of teams. In the meantime, the premier English fast bowler James Anderson has predicted the probable winner of next year’s event.
I just think we’ve got all bases covered
“There’s no-one really anywhere near (England) in the one-day form, probably India is the closest. I think in our conditions I don’t think anyone is going to come near us, so I think we’ve really got to screw up if we don’t win the World Cup,” Anderson was quoted as saying in BBC Tailenders podcast.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on the lads, but the way that England play, the talent we’ve got, the players we’ve got and the way we play as a team I just think we’ve got all bases covered,” the veteran of 145 Tests, 194 ODIs and 19 T20Is added.
England have indeed been stupendous, especially after the 2015 edition of the World Cup Down Under. They couldn’t qualify for the quarterfinal and were slammed left, right and centre. The Three Lions are currently ICC’s number one-ranked ODI team. In the last few months, the team, captained by left-handed batsman Eoin Morgan, have beaten India, Australia, and Sri Lanka in the 50-overs format.
