Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in its attempt to revive international cricket in their country, has already successfully hosted the famous ‘Independence Cup’ against World XI. The next step in order to complete their objective of total restoration is the matches against Sri Lanka and West Indies.
Even though some of the prominent cricketers from the Sri Lankan side have pulled out of the T20I series, the fixture still remains pivotal for the future of Pakistan cricket. The second T20I would be played today at Abu Dhabi before the focus shifts to the Gaddafi Stadium at Lahore.
The Pakistan cricket team would receive a major boost with the presence of champion boxer Amir Khan. The official Twitter account of the Pakistan Cricket Board recently uploaded a snippet of the boxer addressing the followers that he would be present at the stadium to support the Pakistan team.
“I think it’s great to have international sports back into Pakistan, especially cricket, which is the biggest sport in Pakistan. Pakistan Zindabad! I am in your corner lets do this,” claimed Amir Khan according to the video

The last time the Sri Lankans toured Pakistan, the Lions were at the receiving end of an ill-fated incident. During their 2009 tour to Pakistan, their team bus was attacked by a group of terrorists who open fired at them. Several players from the squad were bruised and wounded due to the attack.
Players such as Ajantha Mendis, Suranga Lakmal and Thilan Samaraweera were hit by the shrapnel from the bullets. In fact, Suranga Lakmal still carries pieces of the bullet in his thighs.
Prior to the Independence Cup, the last piece of prominent international action the iconic Gadaffi Stadium at Lahore saw was the Sri Lankan players being airlifted from the ground. Presently, Pakistan leads the 3-match T20I series by 1-0 after whitewashing the ODI series by 5-0
