Pakistan cricket has recently undergone another change. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently announced Wasim Khan as the new managing director. More than 350 candidates showed their interest following an advertisement for the position as per a statement released by the PCB. The selection took place after a rigorous two-phase process.
In the first phase, nine shortlisted candidates were interviewed by a panel comprising Mr Bakhtiar Khawaja, HR Consultant and independent member of the panel, Mr Asad Ali Khan, Member Board of Governors (BOG) and President of Abacus Consulting, and Lt Gen (R) Javed Zia, Member BOG and Chairman Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
Only three candidates were selected, which were interviewed by PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani, who was assisted by Asad Ali Khan and Javed Zia. After the appointment, Wasim was absolutely delighted and he also mentioned that he would be relocating to Pakistan with his family.
We have started the process of revamping the PCB
“I am delighted to be offered the position of managing director of PCB – a role which I have accepted as a challenge. I have my roots in Pakistan, a country which is full of talent. I will be relocating to Pakistan with my family who are as excited as I am,” Wasim was quoted as saying in Geo News.
“We welcome Wasim who will be joining the PCB soon. He was selected unanimously following robust interview process with some seriously good candidates. I must thank each and every applicant who participated in this process. Wasim brings with him fresh ideas and knowledge of cricket, and he will receive the support of the board and the management of PCB,” Mani mentioned.
“We have started the process of revamping the PCB and under Wasim, we now have an experienced leader of the management team who will oversee the implementation of the board’s decisions. His first task would be to oversee the reforms of domestic cricket structure,” Mani added.
As far as action on the cricket pitch is concerned, Pakistan played a three-match Test series against New Zealand at the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Previously, they won the two-match series against Australia. Moreover, they are also the number one ranked T20I team, having won as many as 11 series under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed.
