Following an impeccable inning, a club cricketer from Shikarpur, Sindh, Pakistan stormed into the record books with an unbeaten triple century in the on-going PCB Fazal Mahmood Inter-club Cricket Championship. 26-year-old Bilal Irshad smashed 9 sixes and stroked 42 boundaries to register his triple ton. His unbeaten 320 runs came off 175 deliveries for Shaheed Alam Bux Cricket Club against Al Rehman CC.

Partnered with teammate Zakir Hussain, the duo added 364 runs for the second wicket to help their team post 556 runs in 50 overs. The match was eventually won by Shaheed Alam Bux club with a 411 runs margin. The Fazal Mahmood club championship was started as an initiative to engage as many as 98 districts across the country. The event which was launched in Balochistan is currently staging matches in 30 districts.

The tournament aims at engaging club players and reviving domestic cricket in the country. All the 98 districts would eventually start hosting matches as the tournament proceeds and gain momentum.

Domestic cricket in Pakistan to benefit

According to Pakobserver, a PCB spokesperson was quoted by Geo.tv as saying, “The top performers in this tournament will be dovetailed into our existing inter-district (currently the only feedstock system), District/Regional (Inter-District Tournament) selection process will be based on performance, emerging cricketers will be motivated to improve their skills and fitness standards.”

The first phase will be a knockout stage followed by group/league matches. The third stage would include inter-district matches while the fourth round will witness a regional competition. A total of 2,836 clubs in Pakistan shall showcase their skills in the tournament this year and above 5000 matches are expected to be played across the country.

Parallel incident from the past

Earlier this year, Delhi boy Mohit Ahlawat achieved a similar feat by becoming the first cricketer ever to score a triple century in the shortest format of the game. He scored his triple hundred in just 72 balls and his innings comprised of 39 sixes and 14 fours.
