Pakistan disabled team to play a tri-series involving England and Bangladesh
The disabled cricketers will be involved in a tri-series hosted in England by the ECB.
The Pakistan disabled cricket team is set to play a tri-series in England where apart from hosts Bangladesh will be the third country as per Amiruddin Ansari, secretary of the Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA). The tournament will be played during the first week of July and will be hosted by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECW).
While speaking to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Amiruddin Ansari confirmed the date and venue for the matches which will be played during the tri-nation series. The tournament will start on 6th of July and the matches will be played held in and around Worcestershire’s grounds. The final which be played on 13th of July. Worcestershire County Cricket club’s New Road will host the final of the series.
According to Ansari, their association has selected a pool of 30 players who will take part in Pentangular Cup and the National Disabled Cricket Championship and based on their performances, best 20 will tour with the team for the tri-series. “We have shortlisted a pool of 30 players from our national competitions including the Pentangular Cup and the National Disabled Cricket Championship,” Ansari was quoted saying.
New selection committee formed
With the tri-series announced, the PDCA made further announcements as their president, former Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Rashid Latif approved a four-member committee for the selection of the players. According to a press release, the four-member committee will be led by Iqbal Imam who played first-class cricket in Pakistan as an all-rounder. Sabih Azhar, Mohammad Javed and Javed Ashraf are the other 3 members of the selection panel who will help Imam in the selection of the players for the tri-series and further tournaments.
Recently, Pakistan’s Blind Cricket team had made their way to the finals of the World Cup where India had beaten them to clinch the trophy in a close encounter.
