When it comes to Pakistan cricket, they are encapsulated by one controversy or the other. On this occasion, it’s the rift between Pakistan team’s head coach Mickey Arthur and the Cricket Committee comprising of Mohsin Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Wasim Akram, and former Pakistan’s women’s team captain Urooj Mumtaz.
As part of Mohsin Khan calling Arthur “stupid and donkey”, the South African has demanded a public apology from the Committee Chief Mohsin. He had labeled Arthur with those names for supporting Mohammad Amir. According to “Jang” newspaper, Arthur has made it crystal clear that unless former Test opener Mohsin Khan apologizes publicly for his alleged disgraceful remarks in a television show, Arthur had no intentions of holding any meeting with him.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while appointing the Cricket Committee had also extended Arthur’s contract until the 2019 World Cup in England. The committee is responsible for overseeing the work of the national selection committee and the Pakistan team management and make suitable recommendations to improve it if there is scope for any.
Conflict with the Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq as well!
Mickey Arthur also had a conflict with the chief selector of Pakistan team, Inzamam-ul-Haq over the selection of some players. It is understood that they had a heated argument among themselves in matters of selection. Notably, senior player Mohammad Hafeez was not in the coach Arthur’s game plans, however, Inzamam was in favor of pushing his comeback to the national team which didn’t go well with the foreign coach.
However, arguably Hafeez, in spite of being in almost the twilight of his career has been performing exceptionally and kept the selectors’ faith. He has been giving good performances with both bat and ball.
Pakistan are currently playing against New Zealand in the UAE, which is Pakistan’s home turf. They had secured a series sweep against Australia, making them look listless in all the three T20Is. They have clean swept Kiwis as well, winning the series by a 3-0 margin. Currently, they are the No. 1 ranked team in the shortest format.
