Pakistan include Mohammad Amir in the World Cup squad

His poor form was the reason he failed to find a place in the World Cup squad that Pakistan chose preliminarily. But after the Men in Green had a struggle with the ball against England in the first two ODIs, the team management was compelled to make an adjustment and Mohammad Amir was included in the squad. Pakistan bowlers conceded over 350 runs in both the matches against England with the second game saw the hosts having a cakewalk while chasing 359 runs.

They also struggled to rein in English batsmen in the one-off T20I that they played and lost. Amir, who is in the Pakistan squad for the England series and not the World Cup, was picked for the first game at the Oval on May 8 but he did not get to bowl as the match was washed out.

The 27-year-old left-arm pacer is suspected to be suffering from chicken pox and reportedly underwent a medical test in London. The team management has decided to give him ample time to recover and be in a position to deliver for the national team. Amir could pick only five wickets in his last 14 matches with six consecutive games without a scalp and that saw his ouster from the squad.

“The chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq is also in agreement with the team management but he wants to first be sure Amir can be fit by the time the World Cup starts from May 30,” Sportstar cited reports quoting sources as saying.

Team management awaiting a medical report on Amir

It was learnt that the Pakistan team management along with the chief selector were awaiting the report on Amir who was sent to London to stay with his in-laws after his illness was first reported. They will play Windies in their first game in the World Cup at Trent Bridge on May 31, a day after the tournament kicks off.

“If the cricket board confirms that Amir can make a recovery in two weeks time, the management and chief selector will want him in the World Cup squad,” the source said.

It also said that the management was keeping a close watch on Asif Ali who scored two successive fifties in the ODIs and provided he continued with his form, he might also get included in the squad.
