Legendary Pakistani cricketer Younis Khan was recently honored at the Lords’ for a remarkable career in cricket. Younis Khan recently retired from all forms of the game when he announced his retirement from Test cricket. The away series in West Indies was his final Test assignment along with Misbah-ul-Haq. Younis managed to end his illustrious career on a high with a 2-1 win for Pakistan.

During the series, he had also achieved the feat of being the first player from Pakistan to score 10000 Test runs. Speaking about receiving the honors from Lords’, Younis noted that he is very happy to have received the honor. “This is more than enough for me. I am really enjoying this. Many players and my friends are here. I feel truly honored,” he quoted.

Pakistan team head coach Mickey Arthur also stated that he absolutely enjoyed working someone of the stature of Younis. “It has been a privilege and an honor to work with a player like Younis Khan,” Mickey Arthur quoted.

Limited overs skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, who is currently in England for the ICC Champions Trophy, also lauded the illustrious career of Younis. He called him a thorough professional. “I have played with him in the last couple of years. He has been a thorough professional,” Sarfraz Ahmed quoted.

Words from the Almanack

Earlier, Younis was named as one of the top players of the year by the Wisden Almanack. The editor of the Wisden Almanack, Lawrence Booth, had elaborated about the way Younis had shown resilience in the Oval Test last year.

“With the pressure on, Younis Khan delivered. His classy 218 in the final Test of the summer, at The Oval, helped Pakistan square the series after successive defeats had left them in danger of squandering their win at Lord’s. It was his 32nd Test hundred – and a reminder that his struggles earlier in the series had been a blip rather than part of a decline,” said Wisden editor Lawrence Booth.
